The old distinction between D1 and D2 reach trucks has been removed. They are now unified under a single D1 category with no height restrictions.
What this means for you: Training is now simpler, but it is more important than ever to record the actual height at which your operators were assessed to ensure they are competent for your specific racking.
Low-level order pickers (LLOPs), which used to sit in the A2 category, have moved to their own dedicated E0 category. This change provides much-needed clarity for training and ensures operators are tested on the specific risks of these fast-moving machines.
As warehouse technology evolves, so do the categories.
SP1: A new dedicated category for Vertical Stock Pickers (like the Crown Wave).
M4: A new designation for Pedestrian Operated Stacker Trucks within the Multi-directional group.
The good news is that certificates issued before 19th January 2026 remain valid. However, any refresher training or new certifications moving forward must reflect these new codes.
Don’t wait for an inspection to find a gap in your paperwork. We recommend a quick audit of your current fleet against the new ABA categories. If you’ve recently added new equipment or your operators are due for a 3-year refresher, now is the perfect time to align with the 2026 standards.
